Paris Fashion Week is no stranger to spectacle, but BTS member Jimin managed to turn a fashion appearance into a conversation about history, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. As luxury houses unveiled their Spring/Summer 2027 collections on June 23, all eyes were fixed on Dior's showcase.

Members of the ARMY started asking the same question as pictures appeared on social media: What inspired the remarkable jacket? However, the amazing tale concealed within the clothing itself was what enthralled people, not simply the eye-catching color scheme or princely silhouette.

The response showed an intriguing link to the history of fashion.

The 250-year-old tailcoat behind Jimin's blue velvet jacket

The answer reveals an interesting link to fashion history. While Jimin's blue velvet jacket looks to be part of Dior's recently released Spring/Summer 2027 collection, it appears to be inspired by a historic velvet tailcoat from around 1775.

The original clothing is from the Mark Wallis Collection, one of the UK's biggest private collections of antique menswear. The archive, curated by historian and collector Mark Wallis, preserves unusual clothing from across centuries of fashion history.

The 18th-century velvet tailcoat is a unique archival object that is not for sale. Dior's apparent reference to the historic design connected centuries-old workmanship with contemporary luxury fashion, adding another dimension of significance to Jimin's Paris Fashion Week ensemble.

CORTIS members also make their Dior debut

While Jimin made news during the Dior show, rookie K-pop group CORTIS also achieved a significant milestone at Paris Fashion Week.

After James and Martin had previously attended a YSL showcase, fellow members Seonghyeon, Keonho, and Juhoon took to the Dior stage of global fashion, showcasing a new generation of K-pop talent. At the showcase, the rookie idols and BigHit Entertainment senior Jimin exchanged words and laughing.

The ensemble adopted a youthful yet polished aesthetic, combining playful styling with traditional menswear inspirations. Among them, Juhoon stood out the most, sporting a blue checkered shirt with sparkling silver fringe embellishments over the shoulders, producing one of the event's most striking appearances.
