Did Choi Woo-shik ignore a Black fan? The viral AMI Paris video sparks racism debate, but here's why fans are defending him

A viral video from the AMI Paris show during Paris Fashion Week 2026 has placed K-drama star Choi Woo-shik at the centre of an online controversy. The clip, shared by a fan who claimed the actor ignored her despite acknowledging others nearby, quickly led to accusations of racism across social media.


However, as the debate intensified, many fans argued that the viral video failed to capture the full interaction, with some insisting Choi had acknowledged everyone holding signs.

The controversy began after a fan, who goes by the name Tricia The Angel, shared videos from the AMI Paris event on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). According to her, she attended the event specifically to support Choi Woo-shik, bringing posters and other items for him to sign.

In the videos, the actor can be seen greeting and signing items for several fans as he made his way through the crowd. Tricia, however, claimed that despite repeatedly calling out to him and asking, "Please," Choi walked past without acknowledging her.

She later uploaded a longer clip, saying the actor appeared to look in her direction but still did not approach her. The fan said the experience left her hurt and questioning why she had seemingly been singled out.


The incident quickly gained traction online, with some viewers accusing Choi of ignoring the fan because of her race or social status.

As criticism spread across TikTok, X, and even the actor's Instagram comments, another conversation began to emerge. Several users argued that the viral clip did not show the complete interaction and cautioned against drawing conclusions from a short video.

Some viewers, including Black fans, said they did not believe Choi's actions were racist, claiming he appeared to acknowledge fans across the barricade and respond to multiple signs during the event.

While the fan's disappointment is evident in the videos she shared, the footage alone does not establish why Choi did not stop to interact with her.

Some users also shared clips of the actor walking past other fans without signing their books or posters, with many questioning whether those instances should also be labelled as "racism."

It remains unclear whether he heard her requests, recognized she was asking for an autograph, or was limited by security, staff directions, or time constraints during the event.


As a result, allegations that the incident was motivated by racism or class-based discrimination remain based on viewers' interpretations rather than confirmed facts.


Choi Woo-shik has not publicly addressed the controversy.
