This year has seen a strong resurgence of comedy films, from fan-favourite sequels like The Devil Wears Prada to animated comedies such as Hooper. Now, Netflix's latest comedy, Little Brother, looks ready to join that growing list and bring even more laughs to audiences.
With the trailer releasing on May 20, 2026, John Cena and Eric André team up for what is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining and unpredictable comedy films of the year.
With the weekend just around the corner, this might be the perfect movie to help you switch off from work and enjoy some much-needed laughs. So, if you're looking to “see” John Cena, scroll down!
Little Brother follows Rudd, played by John Cena (as hinted above), a successful New York real estate broker who appears to have the perfect life. He has a thriving career, a loving wife named Deirdre, played by Michelle Monaghan, and a carefully organised lifestyle where everything is under control.
However, Rudd's peaceful routine is turned upside down when Marcus, portrayed by Eric André, unexpectedly re-enters his life. Now fully grown and just as unpredictable as ever, Marcus arrives without warning and quickly brings chaos into Rudd's carefully structured world.
As Marcus settles into Rudd's home, his carefree personality begins to clash with Rudd's disciplined lifestyle. While he wins over family members with his charm and eccentric behaviour, he also pushes Rudd to his limits, testing his patience, giving him a different outlook on life.
To put it simply, Marcus is not actually Rudd's biological brother. The title Little Brother refers to a mentorship programme they were both part of when they were younger. As a teenager, Rudd volunteered as a "Big Brother" and was paired with a young Marcus Pinchel through the programme.
Years later, Marcus unexpectedly returns and still sees Rudd as an important part of his life. Even though they are not related by blood, Marcus treats Rudd like family and believes they share a special bond because of their past connection.
His sudden return turns Rudd's carefully organised life upside down. Marcus's unpredictable personality creates plenty of chaos and comical awkward situations, but it also forces Rudd to re-evaluate his priorities and relationships.
The fan’s opinion largely echoed positivity. One user on X (formerly Twitter) raved, “John Cena and Eric André together is pure chaos gold , I haven’t laughed this hard in years!”
Another viewer highlighted the central relationship in the story, saying, “Not blood brothers but the way Marcus blows up Rudd’s perfect life is everything. Netflix nailed it.”
Many fans were especially impressed by Eric André's performance. One fan posted, “Eric André as the chaotic little brother is the role he was born to play. Cena’s straight-man energy is chef’s kiss.”
The comedy itself has also received praise, with one user noting, “Finally a comedy that actually delivers on the trailer hype. John Cena surprised everyone with his timing.”
John Cena's performance as Rudd packed a punch!. While Cena is best known for his WWE career and larger-than-life action-comedy roles, many viewers feel he delivers one of his most well-rounded performances in Little Brother.

Throughout the film, Cena combines strong comedic timing with genuine emotional depth, showing a more vulnerable side of his acting abilities. His portrayal of the uptight and frustrated Rudd works perfectly alongside Eric André's unpredictable and energetic Marcus, creating a dynamic that drives much of the film's humour.
Many critics and fans have praised the way Cena balances laugh-out-loud comedy with meaningful character development. As Rudd gradually learns to let go of control and embrace the unexpected, Cena brings warmth and authenticity to the role, proving he is capable of much more than just action-packed performances.
The film features a talented cast led by John Cena, who plays Rudd, Eric André stars as Marcus, Rudd's former "little brother" from a childhood mentorship programme, Michelle Monaghan plays Deirdre, Rudd's wife, while Christopher Meloni takes on an important supporting role. The cast is further strengthened by appearances from Ego Nwodim and Sherry Cola.
The film had its theatrical premiere at the Paris Theater in Manhattan on June 18, 2026. It streams worldwide on Netflix starting June 26, 2026.
