The FIFA World Cup 2026 clash between South Korea and South Africa may have ended in heartbreak for Korean football fans, but for BTS member V aka Kim Taehyung, the aftermath took an unexpected turn.
A day before the match, Taehyung confidently predicted victory for his home nation while sending a playful message to South African ARMY. However, after South Korea suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat, fans quickly returned to remind the global superstar of his prediction - and many came with a request of their own.

Ahead of the Group A showdown, V took to Weverse to share his excitement about watching the match and jokingly warned South African fans that South Korea would come out on top.
"I'm gonna watch the match...South African ARMYs, let's do fair play...It's sad but we'll take the victory, I'm sorry," he said, while smirking at the camera.
The lighthearted message quickly spread across social media, with football fans and ARMY alike enjoying the friendly rivalry. Some even joked that the fixture had become a battle between two fandoms rather than two national teams.
Unfortunately for Taehyung, the prediction did not age well. South Africa secured a 1-0 victory, leaving South Korea on the losing side and giving fans plenty of material to tease the BTS star online.
Soon after the final whistle, fans flocked to V's social media accounts, particularly TikTok, where comments remain open. Rather than celebrating the win alone, many South African ARMY used the moment to launch a campaign for something they have wanted for years - a BTS concert in South Africa.
The requests quickly spread across fan communities, with supporters joking that if V could confidently predict a South Korean victory, he could also help make a South African BTS concert happen.
The playful exchange soon drew attention from both football fans and K-pop followers, creating one of the more unexpected crossover moments of the tournament.
Despite the loss, South Korea's World Cup journey may not be over just yet. The team finished third in Group A with three points after recording one win and two defeats.
Under the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup format, the top two teams from each group qualify automatically, while the eight best third-placed teams also advance to the Round of 32.
South Korea's record leaves them in a competitive position among the third-placed sides, and analysts continue to view them as strong contenders for progression.
As fans wait for confirmation of their fate, one thing is already certain: V's World Cup prediction has become one of the tournament's most talked-about fan moments, with South African ARMY making sure the BTS star does not forget it anytime soon.
